Whilst there are some great cafes and restaurants around, it’s always nice to eat outside in the fresh air. To save you pulling out the tables and chairs beside the main highway (don’t laugh, it happens), here are some local tips to get you heading to the most picturesque picnic spots we know about.
St Peters Pass, on the highway
This large park is signed as a rest stop, and it’s a popular place with campervans and groups to stop for a rest and stretch of the legs. It’s also neatly the halfway point between Hobart and Launceston. Close to Oatlands, the park area has barbeque and toilet facilities. Continuing in the tradition of the late Jack Cashion, the local residents keep up an excellent display of topiary sculptures along the road in and out of St Peters Pass.
