Kids love learning and seeing new things, and there are activities by the bucketload for families in Launceston City.
Launceston Aquatic Centre
For a small city, this is an awesome aquatic centre. Heated indoor pools, BBQ area, waterslide and diving pool, it’s got everything. There’s a little kids shallow area, plus a deeper pool for bigger kids and a 50m lap pool for the serious swimmer. Mum and Dad can relax at the very cool cafe with a deck in the complex too.
QVMAG Phenomena Factory
The Phenomena Factory is a free-entry interactive science centre providing hands-on education for kids of all ages. You can challenge yourself in the Perception Tunnel or test your reactions while you touch, switch, pull and crank your way around the Phenomena Factory, actively learning about science along the way.
Cataract Gorge and First Basin
The Cataract Gorge is a great place to take the family. There’s a charge for parking, but the swimming pool is free and there are loads of walking trails and a suspension bridge to explore. Try the chairlife one direction, stop for a snack at the kiosk at one end or the cafe at the other, then walk back via the bridge. Try stretching the legs further by walking up from Kings Bridge – there’s a path on either side of the river. Watch out the zig zag track is steep! But the main walk is well worth the stroll on the opposite site.
A glorious park for all people. There’s a playground for the little ones with swings and a flying fox. There are ducks in the pond, a train ride around the park, and monkeys to observe. Take a picnic and lounge under one of the many trees.
Need to run the kids in a controlled environment? Kids Paradise is your answer. Located at the Tailrace Centre, there’s a cafe inside for parents to relax while kids run themselves ragged on the multi level play equipment inside.
Another indoor play centre near the tennis centre. Perhaps a hit of tennis or mini golf might interest you also.
